Week 12- Introducing Interactability

After taking a week off from coding I came back inspired to begin introducing my work thus far to the public. In order to achieve this I ported my code onto a very simple webpage. Utilizing my work in generative drawing alongside generative poetry I have managed to create an interesting and unique webpage.

Transforming these lines of code that once sat on my computer alone and suddenly exposing the outcomes to the world is a strange feeling. The website allows the user to see a completely unique work of art be created live in front of them. The colour, line-width and poem is completely unique to each individual visitor and a new piece can be created simply by clicking the refresh button.

Having done a fair amount of research into algorithms, the over-dilution of content available alongside dwindling attention spans, this work is a commentary of all 3. The temporality of art in the current age is totally new. Before, a painting would be admired for hours on end and pined over, yet now you can see something equally amazing in your Instagram feed and just scroll straight past it without thinking twice.

This website almost panders to that mentality in a way. When the user gets bored they can refresh. The power is in their hands. How far along the user allows the drawing to get is a commentary on their interaction with the work and with artworks in general.

I'm very happy with the outcome of this website, the way the lines move and the poem is created is totally unique and allows for a more personal experience, which is the way art seems to be heading. Moving forward it would be a good idea to make the website work on all devices. It is currently very glitchy on anything other than a 16:9 aspect ration computer monitor, so to make it accessible on mobile devices as well I believe would go a long way.
