Week 16- Collaboration Continuation

After everybody in our collaborative group went off and created a piece based on the topics we chose last week, we each sent in whatever we had made and had another discussion about where we wanted to take these pieces next, what we wanted to change/add and how they may all end up intersecting and working alongside one another.

As we spoke, the idea of the glitch became more and more prevalent and intriguing to everybody. Miya actually introduced me to a method of adding a glitch effect to any photographs, so this week I experimented with that. Losing control of my piece by means of a glitch, handing over power to something so non-tangible. Some results weren't aesthetically pleasing, as you would imagine, but that is the very nature of the glitch, its unruly, unpredictable nature.

These are a few of the outcomes, it's hard to critique them from the perspective of the artist as I feel the initial intention/meaning gets totally warped when within the grasp of the glitch, but this is something I personally find extremely empowering and interesting. My entire project up to this point has surrounded the passing of power from human to computer and this exploration of the glitch has become very important in that journey.

Some of the images become almost unreadable and unrecognisable because of the glitch but I have to accept I have no choice in that matter and the more I hand my work over to this 'glitch' character, the more power I give to the algorithm, the ultimate point in my main project.
