Week 20- Further Experiments

This week I got some intriguing results by continuing down the same path of experimentations. I continued creating algorithmic drawings and then allowing the program to do whatever it wanted with them, applying different effects/glitches randomly.

The outcomes were very different this week in that the effect applied to them made the drawings almost unrecognisable, the final product almost felt like they had been vandalized, especially as the creator of the original work. For whatever reason the program decided that this drawing in particular should be warped beyond recognition.

It would go against the very nature of this project if I was to write off every outcome I didn't like, for better or for worse these are the purest outcomes from this collaboration. They may not be readable  as originally intended but perhaps that leaves more room for the viewer to ponder upon what the overall process is about rather than just the final outcome.

While they are in no way intended I am actually excited by these outcomes as they perfectly display the awkward, clunky relationship we still have with these, still relatively new, technologies. The idea is to collaborate not to control and I believe these pieces nicely encapsulate that. I can't say "I plan on exploring this further" because it's impossible to direct where this will go, that huge decision is up to the algorithm to decide. But, moving forward, I expect this relationship to develop more and more which will ultimately reveal some truths regarding the computer-human relationship.
