Week 24: Wrapping Up Public Project
This week Laura and I wrapped up our public project by imagining the works in their actual environment and finishing out some of the conversations present throughout the posters. Throughout this project the conversations and themes have been varied yet concisely in line with the original theme we suggested: communication.
Coming to the end of this project and looking back over it I feel it has been a very healthy and fruitful method of working and collaborating. Not simply making work to make work, but making it as a means of communication creates so much more depth and validity and personality within each individual piece that I feel was incredibly substantial in the overall messaging of the project.
These are some of the completed/finalized posters that were generated through our system of collaboration. Personally I feel they have a strong conversational element to them while maintaining the bold, almost propaganda-like, eye-catching-ness to them. However, as a digital image they are not as strong as they potentially could be, so imagining them within public space became paramount to the completion of this project.
Overall, this project has been extremely insightful and has navigated me towards a plethora of new modes of artmaking. Previously I never would have considered the applications of the poster, infiltrating such a solidified space and collaborating in this direct, back-and-forth, manner.
All of these learning points evident throughout the duration of this short project have, and will continue to, trickle into my regular practice and have already made me aware of elements of art-making that I wasn't aware of before.
Moving forward, myself and Laura plan to continue the ongoing conversation that is this project and potentially research into taking it to larger scales such as billboards or even interactive advertisements that the public can input their own views and ideas into. This project has been an enjoyable and eye-opening experience and I feel there are even more exciting times ahead.
